Our summer sailing school is open to kids aged 8 – 12 years. It offers young sailors an opportunity to have fun playing games on the water while learning how to sail in a safe and fun environment, building confidence and independence by teaching them to sail independently right from the start. We teach the basics of sailing where kids can learn out of the classroom through action and supported experimentation in a controlled, coach supervised setting. This involves;
- Building skills one layer at a time, starting with steering behind the safety boat in the first session
- Later adding the sail and eventually letting the kids control the boat alone.
- Learning skills like tacking and gybing onshore to build muscle memory before we practice them on the water.
- Learning how to sail on different sailing angles through experimentation.
By the end of the course our aim is that kids will be able to sail an Optimist competently around a triangle course, have an understanding of how to tell where the wind is coming from and be able to tie a few simple knots.
Starts on the 4/5th July 2023 and ends on the 12/13th September (Excluding Santa Marija week)
