SailGreen
Learning sustainability through sailing. Practical. Hands-on. European.
What is SailGreen
SailGreen is a European cooperation project focused on sustainability in sailing and water sports.
The project supports young people, trainers, youth workers and sport organisations. It helps them understand how sailing, sport practice and environmental responsibility are connected.
SailGreen combines learning with real sport activities. The focus is on practical application rather than theory. The aim is to make sustainability part of everyday sailing practice.
Project Aim
The main aim of SailGreen is to promote green sport practices in sailing.
The project supports participants to: – understand the environmental impact of sailing activities – reduce negative effects on water and marine environments – protect coastal and inland water ecosystems through responsible sport behaviour
SailGreen translates sustainability principles into concrete actions that can be applied directly in sport contexts.
Sailing depends on clean water and healthy ecosystems. Pollution, waste and unsustainable habits threaten these conditions.
Many sailing clubs and sport actors want to act more sustainably but often lack clear guidance and practical tools.
SailGreen addresses this gap. The project shows how small changes in sport routines and decision-making can lead to meaningful environmental impact.
SailGreen develops practice-oriented learning resources tailored to sailing and green sport.
Key project results include: – structured e-learning modules on sustainable sailing – practical guidelines for environmentally responsible sport activities – methods and tools for trainers and youth workers – awareness materials for young sailors and volunteers
All outputs are designed to be easy to use in clubs, trainings and youth activities.
SailGreen follows a blended learning approach.
Participants engage through: – short digital learning units – interactive workshops – real-life sailing and sport-related case examples – group reflection and hands-on tasks
Learning is action-oriented. Participants are encouraged to test and apply sustainable practices in their own sport environments.
SailGreen addresses: – young sailors and sport-active youth – sailing trainers and instructors – youth workers in sport and outdoor settings – sailing clubs and sport organisations
The project is inclusive and accessible across different experience levels.
SailGreen strengthens: – environmental awareness within sailing communities – sustainable behaviour in sport practice – green leadership and responsibility among young people
The project creates long-term impact by embedding sustainability knowledge within clubs and local communities. Local actions contribute to broader European sustainability goals.
SailGreen is implemented by a European partnership of organisations with expertise in sport, youth work and sustainability.
The partnership ensures high-quality content, strong practical relevance and transferability across countries. Learning and responsibility are shared across the network.
Sailing can be part of the solution.
Partners
SailGreen is implemented by a European partnership.
