This group is for those interested in taking sailing a step further and participate in regattas. This group trains regularly on Saturdays. Additional training may be planned in advance especially before an event. Novices may occasionally join the more experienced optimist performance group. Sessions take place mostly outside Marsamxett Harbour.
Sessions involve:
- Sailing around different racing course configurations
- Start sequences
- Racing rules of sailing
- Tactics
- Sail trimming
Entry into this group is usually by assessment or after recommendation by coaches from the optimist cadet or level 2 groups.
