Vikings will be organising a fun morning for its members on Sunday the 27th February. Sailors can dress up their boats or even wear a costume or funny hat. Whatever you decide, the ultimate aim is for members to get together and have lots of fun.
To celebrate carnival, the club will be organising a morning of sailing, games and fun races for kids and teens. The event will be open to both members and nonmembers who are either attending or have attended a sailing course in the past. Sailors can choose according to their sailing skills. Beginners will be assigned a coach for team racing and games on our teaching boats while sailors who are currently attending their second Sportmalta course or have sailed for at least 6 months can choose between optimist and topper depending on their age.
And its a wrap! The regatta came to a close yesterday after 2 days of sailing. A record 103 boats participated during this event. On the last day, we were battered by thunderstorms and heavy rain which delayed the start of the races. A total of 4 races were held throughout the weekend. This event was only possible thanks to over 40 volunteers that dedicated their time to make this event a success! Thank you Gauci Borda and Floriana Local Council for sponsoring the event.
Please note amendment to Appendix 1 of the sailing instructions for day 2. Amendment to Sailing instructions
A great turnout for the 1st ranking event held by our club after several years of absence. 103 boats took part in today’s races which were held opposite Tigne for the dinghies and opposite smart city for the SB 20’s.
After a long absence, Vikings will be hosting a ranking event on the 9th and 10th October 2021. The committee has been working on this event for several months and we look forward to hosting sailors from all the local clubs. A large fleet of dinghies is expected to participate together with the larger SB 20s and J92s. This event is also possible thanks to Peter Dimech from RMYC who has kindly accepted to be our race officer and Michael Mifsud, MSF president who has been of great help to obtain the numerous permits required.
See you all on the water!
This week our club was visited by Hon Dr Clifton Grima, Parliamentary Secretary for Youths, Sports and Voluntary Organisations during one of our #summeronthemove kids Sportmalta sessions. Also present for the visit was Mr Robert Portelli, Sportmalta head of programmes. They were given a tour of club premises by VSC Commodore Dr Sandra Agius Darmanin, PRO Miriam Vella and Committee member Michael Fenech.
Last week was a very busy one for Vikings. On Friday we hosted the AFM Maritime Squadron for a sailing activity as a thank you for allowing us to use their slipway while ours was being repaired. Our coaches were amazed at the speed at which the boats were rigged, launched and derigged. We really enjoyed having them.
